The Interweaving of Cosmology, Power,
Authority, and Pleasure

In her poem Rant, Diane di Prima reminds us that we cannot write a single line without a cosmology. Meaning we can’t take a breath, or make a significant decision, or even relate to our bodies without a story of the world. Whether we’re conscious of this story or not, it determines almost everything about the way we inhabit our bodies and our power. In fact, our cosmology not only dictates whether we have power of our own; it also determines our relationship with, and access to, our own pleasure.
But our cosmology also determines another very significant thing: It tells us who has authority and who doesn’t. It reminds, and sometimes warns, us of the consequences should we dare to acknowledge other authorities, including our own.
